A Studio, a Wedding and a Waste Audit: Bits from Winter 2025

I had some truly interesting and exciting jobs behind the camera during the winter of 2025. Despite the pun in the business name Neesh Photography, my work is far from a niche. I’m lucky enough to capture a whole range of very different scenarios and meet all kinds of people, from aspiring artists to a loving couple on their wedding day, and even a dedicated team working on environmental sustainability. I’m excited to share some of these stories with you today.

Capturing Creative Spirit with Wild Heart Creatives

It was a pleasure to once again collaborate with Wild Heart Creatives, a fantastic youth artist development program. Having previously photographed their 2023 cabaret show, I knew I could expect a day filled with energy and creativity. The goal of this shoot was to capture creative headshot-style portraits that truly reflected each young artist’s personality.

We worked from PalStudios in Narellan, which was an exciting change of pace. The adjustable coloured lighting was a huge highlight, allowing us to create vibrant and fun portraits tailored to each subject’s favourite colours and selected outfits. The team at Wild Heart Creatives was incredibly helpful, and the artists’ willingness to bring their own unique playlists and personalities made the day not only productive but a lot of fun.

Nathan & Sarah: A Cozy, Rainy Wedding Day

There’s something incredibly intimate about a smaller wedding, and Nathan and Sarah’s day was just that – cozy, heartfelt, and full of personality, even with a little (or a lot) of rain. This couple, combining their families, created a beautiful ceremony that included a unity candle lighting and a special “sister ceremony” for their daughters. It was very sweet.

Nathan, a mountain biking pro of the 2000s, and Sarah, sporting her cool Converse shoes, had originally planned an adventurous ride with friends after the ceremony. While the rain might have changed their riding plans, it certainly didn’t dampen their spirits.

I don’t usually shoot weddings solo, but the pair were as chill as engaged couples come, and were just after a few snaps of the day. As a photographer, I embraced the weather challenge, adapting to the changing conditions and making the most of the beautiful garden backdrop from our undercover area. We even captured some charming shots of the bride and maid of honour standing out in the rain under umbrellas, adding a wonderfully casual, fun, and romantic touch to their day.

Uncovering Beauty in the Bins: Green Yakka’s Waste Audit in Sydney

When Community Resources, a team I’d worked with before for Green Connect, reached out with an “interesting job request”–a waste audit–I was immediately intrigued! This shoot took me to the loading dock under a Mirvac building in the heart of Sydney, documenting the essential work of Green Yakka.

Green Yakka’s team meticulously sorted through loads of rubbish from cafes, residential areas, and office buildings, categorising items like milk bottles, bottle caps, and coffee cups into specific buckets. Each bucket was then weighed, with data reported to another organisation, highlighting the critical importance of understanding and managing waste. My role was to capture this process, depicting the significance of their work, the dedication of the team members, and the overall process for web and media use.

Despite initial warnings about fluorescent lighting (which turned out to be no problem at all!), I was surprised by the visual appeal of the waste – the colours and patterns offered an unexpected, edgy beauty. The coffee grinds weren’t even stinky; they actually smelled quite nice! I was particularly excited about capturing the team in action as they poured the weighed waste back into the large bins – I thought it was pretty rock and roll. The resulting images are documentary-ish and gritty-ish, showcasing the impactful and often unseen efforts behind environmental sustainability.
